I went to drama school, and I toured until I was about 27. I met my husband, I had a family, and I didn't go back to the industry until I got the offer of a BBC job filming in South Africa, for the new CBBC Children's program. So, you can see I genuinely need my teeth to be intact.
It was a periodontal disease I had, and it got to the point where I really couldn't save my teeth. Gradually, one by one, I was having them out and I was told when they went, I would have great difficulty unless I had implants. I had no confidence at all, I was very depressed while I was still researching having implants.
I had a casting, and my denture just flipped out. There was no way I could hold them in and it's so embarrassing. You know, I was so lucky that my daughter was having work done at The Implant Centre and could recommend them to me. She begged me, she said, “Mum, just please don't go to anybody else until you've seen Guy”.
I went, I was very, very impressed. I mean, his whole attitude, was so caring and they made me feel confident. It was quite simple; he could offer me what they called ‘mini implants’. A full set of lower dentures on four implants. Well… that had never been offered to me by anybody else.
Guy Barwell: Implant-retained dentures are a fantastic solution for patients who are used to wearing dentures or who don't mind wearing dentures. The implants help retain the dentures securely in position.
You can just take it out and pop it back in. It's just like having your teeth. If you're used to a full denture, the ‘mini-implant’, you won't believe how it will change your life. It is worth every single penny, and more.
