The experience of our patients is at the heart of what we do, and we aim to provide complete satisfaction and exceptional results to everyone. All our treatments are guaranteed, and our aftercare is second to none.

Unlike many other clinics which care ends once treatment is complete, we look after our patients by checking their implants annually; we also offer an aftercare membership to extend the guarantee of our implants.

The Patient Journey

  • Dental implants are the pinnacle of dental treatment today; they are an excellent option to replace a failing or missing tooth without causing any damage to adjacent teeth. They look and feel like a natural tooth and provide a superior biting platform to other tooth replacements.

  • • If you have a tooth which is failing or no longer able to be repaired

    • If you have a tooth which can no longer support a bridge

    • If you’ve suffered trauma and need to have a tooth removed

    • If you have a missing tooth or teeth

    • If you have an uncomfortable or ill-fitting denture

    • If gum disease is affecting your smile and confidence

    • For those wanting to restore their smile and eat with confidence again

We are confident we can help you bring back your smile even if you’ve been told you are not suitable for implants and that a denture is your only option.

All our treatments are performed by some of the best implant clinicians in the country, completely in-house at our specialist facilities.

  • This appointment involves very careful assessment of your individual case. You need never be left with a visible gap in your mouth.

The consultation usually takes one hour, during which time you will meet the team at the centre, followed by detailed discussion of your dental and medical history (most of our surgeons are also qualified medical doctors), and your aims for treatment. We will then undertake a very careful and detailed examination of your mouth, including an oral health and cancer screen.

You will have any necessary x-rays taken, so that we can then begin the process of assessing the bone volume available for implants. At this stage, we can usually advise you on your suitability for implants and begin the detailed discussion of the different treatment options available to you, how implants work and the stages and costs involved.

More complex cases sometimes require more time to plan properly, and it may even be necessary for you to be seen by more than one clinician. We may need to make some models of your teeth and to consider further investigations, such as detailed 3D imaging, prior to making any decisions. All the costs involved with this will be explained to you.

Once planning is complete, you will be sent a comprehensive treatment plan outlining everything that was discussed at your initial assessment and detailing all the timings and costs of your treatment. This helps reiterate the information you were given during your initial assessment.

  • Most patients are slightly nervous about this phase of their treatment, but there really is no need to be. We do everything possible to make surgery as stress-free as possible.

    To do’s before surgery:

    * Please eat and drink (non-alcoholic fluids) as normal before all procedures. Do not miss breakfast.

    * Take all of your medication at their normal times.

    * Any medications required and further instructions will be given to you as you arrive.

    * It is very hard not to be nervous about treatment, but please be assured you are in very safe hands. After the surgery, most patients are surprised and delighted that the procedure was so straightforward.

For the placement of a simple single implant, the actual surgery time is only about fifteen minutes. However, you will be booked in for a longer appointment to allow us to put you at ease and to give the local anaesthetic time to work.

The implant surgery is carried out extremely carefully, gently, and precisely and, while it is a surgical procedure, most patients say it is far less traumatic than having a root treatment or tooth extraction. For example, we do not use the high pitched whining drill that most patients associate with dentistry. The expertise of your surgeons ensures that there should be remarkably little discomfort following treatment, and you should require no more than simple, readily available painkillers. Remember, if the gap where the implant is placed is visible, we can then place and adjust a temporary tooth for you.

In most cases, a small metal cap will be placed on the implant to prevent the need for further surgery. At the end of the procedure you may have some stitches which dissolve on their own. If they are causing you annoyance or discomfort, we can remove them for you after a week or two. You will be given a detailed instruction sheet on how to maintain and clean your mouth following the surgery, and we will discuss any pain relief or any antibiotics that may be required at this stage.

  • These appointments are spread out over a few weeks to allow the skilled technicians at our in-house award winning laboratory the time necessary to craft your new bespoke implant crowns.

We have invested in the Trios Intraoral Scanner – the finest machine on the market today. This new technology allows some patients to avoid the need to cope with the difficulty of impression taking, which reduces gagging and improves comfort. Removed text here.

This allows a digital 3D image to be built up of the patient’s mouth, allowing incredible manipulation and demonstration. Very few centres in the UK, or indeed the world, are lucky enough to have this technology at hand.

Once the scan is complete, the images are passed to our onsite laboratory, to allow for 3D printing of models, and manufacture of the final teeth. This is truly the future of dental technology and is available today with us.

Once the crowns are fitted, we will review you a few weeks later to make sure that the final outcome is exactly what you wanted.

  • We are unique in the level of care we provide.

One of the highest accolades given to us is the level of on-going care we offer to patients when treatment is complete. This truly stands us out from other practices, and is part of the reason we have been awarded ‘Best Practice in the UK’ multiple times. This also indicates just how confident we are in the work carried out by The Implant Centre and our partner dentists.

Unlike many other clinics where after your treatment is completed their care ends, here at The Implant Centre we understand that to get the best life out of your implants they need to be well cared for. It is vital that your implants are cleaned very carefully by you and followed up by trained implant dentists.

At the end of your treatment, it is important that you attend regular reviews and we recommend that these are with us at The Implant Centre. This is because, very occasionally, implants can be affected by bone loss around them, in the same way that gum disease can affect the bone around your own natural teeth.

We therefore recommend that we see you after six months, and then on an annual basis, to take x-rays, check the implant and its crown, clean them both as necessary, and take photographs. All of this treatment is carried out without additional charge if you take out our long-term Implant Aftercare Membership.

  • At The Implant Centre we pride ourselves in the way we care for our patients over the long term. To ensure that your implants remain healthy for years to come we have designed the Implant Aftercare Membership, a unique membership package that entitles you to a number of benefits such as; included review appointments, 7 days a week emergency support, free advice on how to clean and look after your implants and much more.

By its very nature, treatment with dental implants is expensive, and the Implant Aftercare Membership provides security for your investment.

Dental implant after care

How to look after your dental implants

  • Successful oral surgery depends on keeping the mouth as clean as possible.

You should also start cleaning your other teeth as normal with a toothbrush, starting on the evening of your surgery. Avoid brushing the surgical site for the first few days, but then begin to carefully clean this area with a toothbrush as well, once tenderness permits.

Hot salt mouthwashes (a cup of hot water with a teaspoon of salt) are very beneficial for healing in the first week. Ensure that the mouthwash is not so hot that it scalds and then hold the hot mouthwash over the surgical site until it cools. Repeat as often as possible.

Try to keep food away from the surgical area for as long as possible. Rinse following eating to keep the area clean.

You are advised not to smoke until the wound has healed, as this severely limits healing in the mouth.

  • Take care to only have cold drinks and do not eat until the local anaesthetic has worn off. Avoid hot drinks or hot food for the first day and do not ‘swill’ liquid over the area. Try not to disturb the area with your tongue or fingers. Do not undertake strenuous exercise (eg running / gym) for the first 48 hours.

  • You may have some swelling and/or bruising following your treatment – this usually reaches a peak two to three days later. This is quite normal and both will subside naturally after a few days. Swelling can be reduced with ice packs (or a bag of frozen peas) wrapped in a towel. Hold on the cheek area for a maximum of ten minutes at a time with twenty minutes’ break. After twenty-four hours, gentle heat is more beneficial. Sleeping propped up slightly on two to three pillows may also help.

  • Pain should not be a big problem. Although you may be sore for a few days after any surgery in your mouth, this can be easily managed with simple analgesics (painkillers). You should take these regularly at the maximum stated dose for the first two days after your surgery. Take whatever painkillers you normally take for headaches, aches, and sprains (ibuprofen and paracetamol make a good combination), and take your first dose before the local anaesthetic has completely worn off.

If after a few days you experience increasing pain and swelling, you must return to The Implant Centre as soon as possible, so that we can ensure you are not beginning to develop an infection.

  • If you have a denture that covers the surgical area, please wear it as little as possible for the first week to protect the surgical site during its initial healing period. You should always leave the denture out at night.

  • The stitches are dissolvable but often remain for around two to three weeks. If they are uncomfortable or annoying, you may contact us to remove them.

Some minor bleeding after surgery in the mouth is perfectly normal. If this persists, apply pressure by biting firmly down over the area on a dampened gauze swab or clean handkerchief for sixty minutes whilst sitting upright. Do not keep checking or changing the gauze. You should contact us if bleeding persists for any reason after applying pressure in this way.

If you have been given a course of antibiotics to take after your surgery, please ensure that you complete the course.

We want your recovery to be as smooth and pleasant as possible.

It is vital to follow these instructions very carefully – if you have any concerns or questions regarding your progress, please do not hesitate to contact us.

An out of hours contact number is always available on our answerphone.
