Dental Hygiene

Dental hygiene treatment is provided here at The Implant Centre by our specially trained dental hygienists. Between them they have a wealth of knowledge and expertise to help you achieve and maintain a healthy mouth. They are experts in treating nervous patients and they will help to make you feel at ease during your appointments in our modern and comfortable dental surgeries.

What you can expect from a hygiene appointment:

We will have a thorough chat about your needs and wishes, your medical history and risk factors for gum disease. Based on this information, we will tailor your appointment to suit your needs.

Your teeth and gums will be assessed to determine the amount of plaque removal you will need and risk factors will be highlighted. We may use a special dye on your teeth to highlight the areas of plaque build-up.

Your teeth will be professionally cleaned with special equipment and pastes. This process is also known as scaling and polishing.

One of the most valuable things we do is to show you how to look after your teeth and implants so that they remain free from plaque in the future. You will be advised on the best tooth brushing technique and given tips on flossing and using interdental brushes.

We will offer smoking cessation advice and support.

We will discuss your future treatment needs including onward referral to the periodontist for more specialist gum disease treatment.

We will discuss with you the recommended recall between appointments to ensure the health of gums.

Additional services we offer to registered patients:

Cosmetic stain removal

Some stains become more ingrained over time for example, tobacco or tea and coffee stains. These may require a more advance stain removal appointment where we use an air polisher to remove these stubborn stains.

This machine may not be able to be used if you have gum disease or any health conditions which contraindicate its use.

One to One oral Hygiene advice

with one of our specialist oral health educator nurses – Louisa or Emese.

We know that day to day self-performed plaque control procedures are imperative for periodontal health. Louisa and Emese will take the time to show you all the correct brushing techniques and find the correct interdental cleaning aids to suit your mouth to establish and maintain an excellent oral hygiene home care routine.
