I fell off a swing when I was 12 and knocked my front teeth out. They (the dentist) pushed them back, and they reset themselves. And were fine up until my daughter was born, where I had an abscess underneath in my jaw. They removed the nerves of the four teeth in the front.
I was in terrible pain on holiday, and so I went to the dentist when I came back. He said, “I'm afraid I'm going to have to take those teeth out”. I had four dead teeth, which gradually over the years darkened. Which was fine because I don't show my bottom teeth that much. My dentist took two out, and when he took them out, one of them was quite badly damaged, quite broken. At that point, I had a plate fitted. I had two false teeth on a small plate. I hated it, I hated having to take it out at night to clean it. I just hated it. I gave it two years.
If I refer to my singing, I was frightened. When I had a plate, I was frightened to open my mouth and sing, there was no way that plate was going to fall out, but I was frightened that it would.
I was talking to my daughter, and she said to me, why don't you have implants? You know, you can afford it now because that was a big consideration. I went back to the dentist, and he said to me “How are you getting on?” I said I hated it. He said, “Well, let's talk about implants”. He then referred me to The Implant Centre. My dentist said to me, “You can have one implant with the two teeth sitting on the top of it”. I thought that I'd have to have two individual implants.
I just purely had the implant at The Implant Centre, and then I was referred to my dentist. It’s wonderful, I can't describe what a relief it is not to put that plate in every day.
