It was a summer's day, and we just went down to the local Mag rally. The rider went to pull off and then he realised that my legs had gone back. So, he put the brakes on, and I just went flying over the top. I skidded about three metres on my face, in an open-face helmet. And, then I remember waking up in the hospital.
It had a massive effect because I was always known for my smile, and then suddenly I didn't have it.
I'm very passionate about people. I worked for Royal British Legion Industries. I supported disabled people back into employment. They sent some letters and some feedback to my company, and I was put forward for a national award ‘Advisor of the Year’. We went to London for the ceremony. I was shortlisted to the top three, and I won the award.
Accidents, brain injuries, mental health, it's not an end to life. It's a tool to be used in life. It's something you can manage, and it's just gone on like that. I had to meet all these challenges first before I could go for the implants.
I mean, when I first went in there, it was really kind of confrontational on my part because of my anxiety and my PTSD. Between Andrew and Matthew, they put me at ease and made the journey a lot easier. They've given me the strength to carry on, and now I can't walk past the mirror without smiling at myself.
“Being able to, you know, get out the camera now and say ‘smile’, and she does. It's a big glow and it's amazing. Yeah, her teeth did that. So, to the people at The Implant Centre, Thank you!”
