One way to replace a missing tooth would be to provide you with a fixed bridge, where the teeth on either side of the gap are cut down so that they can be crowned. These can usually last for a very long time. Before implants, this is what we used to do to replace teeth most of the time. The problem is, is that we are removing a lot of healthy enamel from teeth in a lot of situations, which means it can affect the nerve. This can then end up needing a root canal filling and possibly even eventual teeth loss, which then leaves you with two teeth missing as opposed to just one tooth missing.
If your budget allows it, then an implant is a much better solution, as it can be a fixed crown that is screwed into the implant and has much better long-term survival.
