The most common type of oral surgery is tooth extraction (tooth removal). There are many reasons why you might need a tooth extraction.
if you have severe tooth decay and the tooth cannot be saved
gum disease (periodontitis)
dental trauma or a tooth that can’t be repaired
an abscessed or infected tooth. This can form a swelling on the gums or in severe cases a facial swelling.
crowded teeth or wisdom teeth that are impacted and have no space to come through

Dentists work to save natural teeth when possible, but sometimes extractions are necessary to preserve your overall oral and general health.

He looks after direct referrals from many dental practices in Sussex managing their surgical cases.

Nowadays ‘general anaesthetics’ are confined to hospitals and 'conscious sedation' has provided a safe and effective means to help people through any fears of dentistry, the motto 'aware but don't care' fits perfectly.
The drugs used are short acting, so are largely eliminated by the end of the appointment. There will be traces of the drug remaining in your system so an escort is required to go home. Driving is not permitted for 24 hours after the appointment. It is recommended to avoid any business work, paperwork, online shopping, or social media for the rest of the day as mistakes may be made. It is best to eat lightly and drink normally before an appointment.

Rex has a gentle caring manner which is very reassuring for patients who are nervous of dental treatments and who can benefit from intravenous sedation

Andrew Brown will assess all sedation cases pre-operatively checking suitability for treatment.
Medical histories, preoperative blood pressure and anaesthetic grading are taken and discussed.
Cost estimates and information advice sheets are given. OPG x-rays are always taken for wisdom teeth cases.
