John was getting to the point where he may well have been forced to give up playing his beloved instrument. But ‘Teeth in a day’ save the day!
John met with us in 2016 having suffered with dentures for nearly 40 years. He had managed to cope and adapt his eating until things really became unbearable, so he came to see if implants would be an option.
A huge issue was not only the difficulty and discomfort of eating, but playing a wind instrument was ever so much harder with a loose and uncomfortable denture.
Assessment & treatment
There were, sadly, no teeth that we could maintain that would help John in the future. Fortunately, with the techniques we have we were able to consider the pinnacle of dental implant treatment – that is to remove the remaining teeth, place 8 implants in total and fit upper and lower temporary bridges all on the same day.
Intensive planning meant this was ready to do reasonably quickly, and we looked at every opportunity at how to make the process as smooth and trouble free as possible. Something that just cannot be done without the level of care available at The Implant Centre due to the team of surgeons, sedationists, specialist restorative dentists and having the expert team of laboratory technicians on site.
It is testament to all involved that John came back just 1 week after surgery saying how much he loved even the temporary teeth that were fitted, and he had very limited discomfort during this time.
4 months later the teeth were changed for the definitive, reinforced upper and lower set, supported by just 4 implants in each arch. The time with the temporary teeth allows us to make small changes and adaptations to perfect the final outcome.
John was a delight to treat and it is just so pleasing to see how different a person he is now compared to when we first met.
