Denice did everything right, but nothing could save her teeth from gum disease.
Denice had always looked after her mouth – she had regularly gone to her dentist and saw their hygienist every three months, and she was careful to clean her teeth very thoroughly both morning and night.
Despite all of this effort, she knew that she was losing the battle, as her teeth were gradually being lost due to gum disease. Her dentist had told her that this was largely a genetic problem – she was just more susceptible than most people to the disease – but that did not make it any easier for Denice as, one by one, her unsightly teeth became lose and were lost.
She hated the thought of ending up with loose dentures, so her dentist suggested that Denice come to The Implant Centre, to see if we could help.
Assessment & Treatment
From the thorough assessment that The Implant Centre carried out, it was immediately clear that Denice’s gum disease had affected her upper teeth much more severely than her lower ones.
She was initially referred to the Periodontist at The Implant Centre – someone who specialises in the treatment of gum disease and who was able to save most of Denice’s lower teeth. Unfortunately, all of her upper teeth were too severely affected to be saved and had to be removed.
Denice wanted to get some fixed teeth back with the help of dental implants, but she was worried that fixed teeth would be difficult to clean, and might therefore be affected by the same gum disease that had affected her natural teeth.
Fortunately the team at The Implant Centre were able to place four implants into her upper jaw onto which they made a beautiful removable telescopic bridge. This is absolutely solid and secure when she wants it to be – for eating, talking and laughing – but enables her to remove it morning and night to facilitate the cleaning of the underlying implants
Denice was amazed by just how quick and painless the whole procedure, from start to finish, was. She had spent a lifetime losing her teeth but they were all replaced in just a few weeks.
Denice will always be susceptible to gum disease in the future, but her amazing telescopic bridge allows her to clean her implants very effectively each day, whilst also providing the clinicians at The Implant Centre easy access to examine them regularly to ensure they remain healthy.
Her gum disease had ruined both her confidence and her smile but, with the help of our fantastic team at The Implant Centre, Denice is able to eat whatever she wants and to show off that sensational smile once again.
