If you’re considering teeth whitening…
remember to consult your dentist

Teeth whitening is an ever-growing industry here in the UK, but it can prove costly to get this treatment done professionally, so many people opt for cheaper alternatives that can be done in the comfort of your own home.

Do-it-yourself teeth whitening kits do not come risk-free, however, so the Belfast Telegraph spoke to our Dr Guy Barwell for the dental perspective.

Guy recommended that you have a check-up with your dentist before you start any teeth whitening: “Bad patches on teeth could be stains, but in some cases it could be decay, so check with a dentist before whitening.”

The only way to really know if what you’ve used is effective is time. “Dependent on diet, a good teeth-whitening treatment can last for around six months before you need to top it ut again,” says Barwell.
